What Is Juvederm®?
Juvederm® is an injectable gel filler used to reduce lines on the face especially on the around the nose and mouth as well as to plump lips. Juvederm® is made up of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance that attracts water and keeps the skin hydrated. As we age, our skin loses the natural HA, which can now be replaced with Juvederm® injections.

What Is the Procedure for Injecting Juvederm®?
Using a very fine needle, Juvederm® is injected into the targeted area to instantly restore volume to the area. Depending on how well the injection performs, Dr. Taylor may perform additional injections. With Juvederm®, the hyaluronic acid attracts water to retain the skin volume in the targeted area so that the moisture in the skin is maintained although the actual Juvederm® is absorbed by the body.
Juvederm® can correct nasolabial folds (“parentheses”), “marionette” lines, and vertical lip lines. It is also highly effective in lip augmentation, enhancing lip fullness and defining the “cupid’s bow.”
Preparing for Juvederm®
There is no preparation for Juvederm® except to abstain from taking ibuprofen, aspirin, or any blood thinning medications or supplements for about a week prior to receiving Juvederm®. They can increase the chance of bruising around the injection site. Patients are asked to apply a numbing cream to the area one hour prior to treatment or they can receive a local nerve block injection in the office to minimize any potential discomfort. Our providers make detailed notes and diagrams on the individualized treatment pattern for future reference.
Recovery from Juvederm®
Patients are asked to return for a follow-up appointment to evaluate the results, allowing any modification of the treatment and to ensure patient satisfaction. This is a quick, in-office procedure with immediate results and little or no downtime. It is highly effective in rejuvenating one’s appearance, since it smooths the deep lines and creases of the face and plumps the lips, if desired.
