Gynecomastia
in Middletown, NJ

Dr. John Taylor, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Red Bank, NJ, performs male breast reduction on patients dealing with gynecomastia.

What Is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a condition in which male breasts are overdeveloped because of excess fat and breast tissue. Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that removes the excess fat and tissue from the chest area, leaving men with a more masculine chest and more self-confidence.

Benefits of Male Breast Reduction for Gynecomastia

With male breast reduction, men are able to enjoy the following benefits:

  • More masculine physique
  • Improved self-esteem
  • Ability to go without a shirt
  • Participate in more physical activities
  • More variety in stylish clothing

How Is Male Breast Reduction Performed to Treat Gynecomastia?

In male breast reduction surgery, Dr. Taylor removes the excess fat and glandular tissue from the chest area associated with gynecomastia. The glandular breast tissue can be surgically excised through a small incision at the lower border of the areola. This incision is closed with dissolvable sutures, and the small scar heals seamlessly in the areola. Excess fat can be removed using standard liposuction alone or in conjunction with power-assisted liposuction. In some cases if the breasts are excessively large, some skin may need to be removed as well. Dr. Taylor performs this outpatient procedure in approximately two hours under general anesthesia in fully accredited hospitals and surgical facilities.

Patient Reviews

“Laura was fantastic – definitely 5 stars all the way
I was pretty down coming into the office as I had a fairly small but very prominent scar on my face from a combination of a freak accident a month earlier and the ER Dr. completing mishandling my wounds
I was at the point where I was seriously considering invasive scar revision surgery.”

Preparing for Male Breast Reduction Surgery

To prepare for your male breast reduction surgery, we will provide you with instructions to follow on how to prepare for surgery. Just as with most surgeries, we may ask you to do the following:

  • Undergo pre-operative testing
  • See your physician for medical clearance
  • Adjust or discontinue current medications
  • Take certain medications
  • Stop smoking
  • Avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and certain herbal supplements that may thin your blood.
  • Make travel arrangements for someone to drive you to and from surgery
  • Arrange for someone to stay with you the first night following surgery

Recovery from Male Breast Reduction Surgery

Following the surgery, you will have some initial swelling and discomfort as well as some subsequent bruising. A compression vest is worn for two weeks to help minimize swelling, and pain medication is prescribed to control discomfort. An antibiotic will be prescribed as well. You can return to work in one week and healing will continue for several weeks as the chest reshapes to its new contour.
