Brow Lift
in Middletown, NJ

One of the most noticeable signs of aging is the drooping skin around our eyes and forehead, causing us to look unhappy and tired all of the time. At Allure Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. John Taylor performs brow lifts on patients in Red Bank, NJ, who want to look rejuvenated and youthful.

What Is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that improves low placement or sagging of the brows and minimizes the appearance of lines and creases in the forehead. Overactive muscles, heredity, and age are all factors that contribute to these bothersome expression lines and drooping that make one appear older, tired, sad, or even angry.

Benefits of a Brow Lift

Brow lifts offer patients the following benefits:

  • Corrects the appearance of being old and tired
  • Lifts drooping eyebrows
  • Diminishes lines and wrinkles in the forehead
  • Increases self-esteem

How Is a Brow Lift Performed?

Brow lift surgery can be performed endoscopically through small incisions hidden within the hairline. This allows the tissue and muscle beneath the skin to be repositioned, altered, or removed, correcting the source of visible creases and furrows. Dr. Taylor uses Endotine®, small dissolvable implants, to anchor and support the lifted brow. This technique may be done in conjunction with incisions hidden within the natural crease of the upper eyelids to correct frown lines between the brows. Skin resurfacing or chemical peels may further improve skin tone and appearance.

The brow lift procedure generally takes about two hours and is performed under general anesthesia in a fully accredited hospital or surgical facility. The forehead is taped and wrapped after the surgery to minimize swelling and bruising.

Preparing for a Brow Lift

In preparing for a brow lift, there are some necessary steps to take as this procedure is performed under general anesthesia:

  • Undergo pre-operative testing
  • See your physician for medical clearance
  • Adjust or discontinue current medications
  • Take certain medications
  • Stop smoking
  • Avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and certain herbal supplements that may thin your blood.
  • Make travel arrangements for someone to drive you to and from surgery
  • Arrange for someone to stay with you the first night following surgery

Recovery from a Brow Lift

Initial healing may also include some numbness and discomfort that can be controlled with prescribed oral medication. Antibiotics are also taken to prevent infection. An itchy scalp, particularly at the incision sites, is also common. Some facial movements may be restricted or temporarily impaired.

Dr. Taylor recommends that the head be kept elevated at all times until initial swelling has subsided. Light, normal activity may be resumed in about a week. In approximately two weeks, patients usually return to work and normal activities and may use cosmetics to camouflage any bruising that remains. Healing will continue for several weeks as swelling resolves and incision lines fade. Sunscreen should be used until the healing process is fully complete.
